Just surfing and remembered to check in with the site, probably because I just heard of all of the recent changes going on back in Rochester. And change can be positive, hopefully, although I know it hurts some. The radio biz got tedious for me after awhile. It was great back when I was a kid working with Roger, Dave, Wease and the rest. I'm glad Wease and Dave seem to have landed on there feet. Out here in the Northwest I tune into B.J. Shea on KISW and Stephanie Miller on KPTK. But nothing really can replace UNK. Best wishes.

I remember like it happened yesterday and its so hard to believe that hes been gone so long and i remember all the times I would be at work and would look forward to listening to Rog and he inspired me to get my band back together and really give it my all and it lasted til that fateful day and we all parted ways after that and I'm sad to learn that all these wonderful djs have left the station I grew up listening to and I eventually moved to Pennsylvania and the radio stations here arent like my home town of Rochester.I even got to meet Dave and Rog together with Wease as well and they are all awesome people and now my wife and I dj on the internet and I keep the Mc Call family in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks Unkle Roger you were the man who changed my life forever

Oh Roger - not a day goes by that I don't think about you. You helped me get free from an abusive husband and probably saved my son and my life - even in the "crazy years" you never judged and always listened, always had a smile when we would run into each other. You were too good of a human to be here - you are an angel and are with angels now. That is the only way I can find comfort. I still greive along with your family I will never forget

Like December snow, That lays in the woods, You're gone too soon, I knew you should. With October skies, You brought your love, But November came, Taking all I have and... Time...take this sadness from me. Time...bring my heart back safely. Hold on...to warm September... 'Cause life...can be like December snow. With your touch of love, In this Autumn world, The sun was bright, The songs were heard, And maybe fools like me, Are under your spell, But with leaves that fall, I hear you calling... Time...take this sadness away. Time...bring my heart back safely. Hold on to warm September, 'Cause life...can be like December snow. Justin Hayward, "December Snow" "December"

I moved here to Rochester in the late 80's for a 3rd shift job. I knew no one in town, I was the sole person on my shift so I didn't even have any work friends. The radio and Unkle Rog became my friend. For 3 years I worked that shift. I actually looked forward to hearing Unkle Rog every night, playing the musical trivial game where you won gold stars. No actual prices, just a gold star if you knew the answer. Anyway I miss you Unkle Rog. You were a great DJ, but more than that you were a friend, even if we never met.

I am just so overwhelmed. First the real loss of Rog, now the loss of most of what was left that made CMF worth listening to. Dave, Crones, Dino, even manly Stanley. Then I log on here and see Dino's post from just a few days ago. This just ain't right! Rog and Dave were the ones I listened to..that made me grow the gnads to hop right into the biz in 1984. All the calls Rog took from me in the middle of the night when I was in broadcast school in Albany. He told me about being yourself..that personality, originality, and sincerity is how you connect to your audience. He always joked when he said "be yourself..Hey, it even worked for me". I didn't understand what he meant until my first trek in to 259 Monroe and I saw that tan. That wonderfully tanned man that owned rock radio. Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful to Roger for mentoring a big fat Livonia kid that wanted to be a DJ. And also sharing his love of local music (and homegrown hehe) that has stuck with me throughout my career. As a matter of fact, the K was added to my air name a week after Rog left us when a fan emailed me and typed the K instead of the C. This was a fellow in a local band that had a song I was playing on the air. He told me that his radio Unkle was gone and just wanted to feel a little better by putting the K in one more time when he emailed about trying to land a station gig. Although it's not original, I kept the K. Now, I am becoming a radio station owner out here in the southern tier. As I was trying to get pumped about dealing with finding operating capitol today, I got the news about Entercomm and the firings. I almost scrubbed my plans. Look at how radio is dying. But I won't give in and it's because of Roger and Kane-O. Why can't these fat cats in corporate see that they don't have to automate to make money. With HD radio, you can have like 8 extra feeds off your signal. That's eight new stations. How great would it have been for Rog's "Homegrown" show to take over one of those channels with local music. Dave Kane could have programmed a neat "work" channel and spread the Mambo around the clock by programming to folks on all 3 shifts. Same for Pete at PXY. What a great talent!! He also could have programmed an HD channel aimed at this little boogers that don't want talking DJ's but want to hear new music before it passes through the dirty little fingers of the promo companies and all that. OK, I am rambling but I had to get this out. I pray for Rog's family still. He should still be here. ps..Can you imagine how much better the post firing party would have been if Rog was here to get canned with Kane-O, Crones, and Dino?

Don't know why, just thinking of Rog tonight. I'm getting off the air, he should be here to take over. Couple weeks away from another year gone by, and no answers? Rog always had an answer, if you called him w/ a question, HE had an answer. Finding the scum that shot him won't bring our Unk back, but.... just wish he was here...

I am a native of Rochester, New York having been born and raised there. I lived in Rochester until 2000 when I relocated to Portland Oregon. I have known since December '03 that Unkle Roger was murdered and just today I stumbled upon this website while checking the Democrat and Chronicle website. I have very fond memories listening to Unkle Roger late at night while trying to do homework. I always loved his "Homegrown" show and never missed it. I am a former DJ myself, having had a weekly show on WGMC from 1995-1999. What a terrible shame that someone with no regard for human life would murder this great man over a wad of cash. Is his murder still unsolved? Do the police have any leads? Please keep this case alive until the murderer is caught. I would appreciate a reply regarding my question.
