(part2)
I think the most personal image of Roger I remember is when he and Denise had their son and I was over their apartment just after Denise and the baby had gotten home from the birth. I remember Roger holding their son and looking happy, overwhelmed, stressed and loving all at once. They were one of those couples that you just sort of know would make it.
Denise...I just want to say how saddened I am to hear what happened to Roger. Coming from that same period as Roger, we shared that "hippie kindred spirit" and love of music that, I think, made us more giving and trusting than suspicious of people. It's tragic that someone so giving would have his life cut short is such a way and that you've lost a soulmate.
I can say that, over the years, anytime that I have talked about or remembered WCMF, Roger has always been mentioned fondly in the coversations.

I was the DJ on-air the first day Roger came to work at WCMF and the top all-nite DJ in Rochester durng that time. I spent 5 years at WCMF before moving back to NYC to pursue a music career with my band Toys (check the first WCMF Homegrown LP...we're on it.)
Even that first encounter with Roger was hilarious. I was ending an all-night midnight to 6 shift and had just buzzed in Roger when he rang the bell and said his name on the intercom. The old WCMF studios were on the second floor of a brick building on Leighton Avenue in a not-so-good neighborhood. When you worked the all-night shift you were the only person in the building and buzzed people in sight-unseen from upstairs. I'd been told by Program Director Bernie Kimple that "a new guy named Roger" would be coming in to start at 6 a.m.
So, I buzzed in Roger and went on-air for a commercial and to talk between songs. As I was talking I turned my head and saw Roger standing in the doorway and I must've seemed startled because as soon as I turned off the mic and removed my headphones, Roger showed his big grin and said, "Weren't expectin' a ni**er, were ya?" And we both busted out laughing. That's one of the most vivid memories I have of him and his sense of humor. A truly great guy and a wonderful human being.

I hosted the 10p-2a shift at WCMF in 1983-1984 (including a lot of fun hosting Midnite metal) as well as being part of WCMF from 1980-1984, and again as a sales rep from 1986-1989. I was terribly shocked to hear of Unk's death. I had the fortune to work between Candi Clark and Uncle Roger every night. I have a million great memeories of that time period. Roger , Dave Kane, Bernie kimball and Maureeen Flaherty stand out as people who were very nice to me when I was a wet behind the ears part timer attending Geneseo state. I will greatly miss Rog. i will always laugh when i think of the first time I met rog and blurted out" man I thought you were white' . Roger thought tha was hilarious. Through this terrible tragedy I was able to reconnect with many of my formrer radio friends including Candi Clark, Dino Kay, Orest, Lenny Moscowitz (half of my Midnite metal road crew) Pete kennedy and many more.
I have many great memeories of my time with Rog including watching him air guitar to AC DC (one of the funniest sights ever). I got to know Rog from inside the hallowed walls of CMF, and I cna tell you that he was a truly kind, geniune and incredibly funny guy. God Bless you Rog. I'll never forget you...

He was a man of so many talents the best of which was bringing out the best in others. He had this way of making you feel loved without even trying. I used to look so forward to seeing him. What a friend. And my kids they just thought he hung the moon. What can we say - We Love You Man ! This world will truley never be the same without you !!!

My best to the late and great Unkle Roger and to all of his friends in the state and East Coast. He was the father to all rockers we came in contact with...at 171 Norton Street. Kenny and I both will miss his association with all of our friends, both past and present. Star Hunt thanks him for all of his input. He will surely be missed.

I still can't believe we won't be taking that elevator ride up to the magic studio on those crazy Sunday nights anymore. Rog...you were a great friend and you made a mean pot of coffee. I know I can speak for everyone in Random Order as well as a lot of other original musicians in this town when I say Unkie will be sadly missed but happily remembered by all of us. Rog let us play because he loved to play...and for that we are all in his debt!!!

Great job on the website...what a cool idea!!!

Denise and Jason...you have been in my thoughts and prayers since this happened.
I'm so very sorry for your loss

I would like to take a second to say that Unkle Rog is truly missed by one of his biggest fans..and his radio legacy is only the part of it. I was lucky enough to work with Rog for a few years. Many Sundays spent in the CMF studio with Homegrown, as well as overnights and remotes spent with Unk and I treasure every second of them. I was so very lucky to have had Roger spend time making a kid dj not only good at what he did ...but in the process a better person as well. Thank you Rog for everything you were able to give me...in the studio and out. Your tireless passion for the music and the people who loved and shared the music with you will be missed immeasureably. Play on my friend
