As the Local Sales Manager of WCMF, I would just like to say how honored I am to work for such an incredible radio station that Uncle Roger was so instrumental in helping to build. I love to hear all the stories from Kano, WEASE and Dino or their time spent with Roger. Roger's dedication to WCMF was unmatched by anyone.
Your legacy will never be forgotten

Hey all. I don't know where the press release came from on the Jeff Cosco Newsletter but the address for the Vigil is NOT 39 King Street. It's 39 MADISON STREET.
On the Tony and Dee "Get Out of The House" segment today there was also a bit of misinformation. They set the time for the vigil beginning at 9pm. This is incorrect. The vigil is being held from 5pm to 9pm.
Despite all the confusion, I look forward to seeing whoever shows up at the right place at the right time!
Thanks for everything!

Wow...ok...I think I need to add an addendum to my last entry because I've managed to hurt someone who's very dear to me without even meaning to.
What I meant by saying that the music is "secondary" is that of all of the people I spoke with...Jeff is the only one...once again...who really came through. It does seem that people do react better when someone from WCMF calls them and yes...that does make me sad..and it IS sad. So..I wanted to bring the focus on another part of Roger's life that yes..was the most important thing to him besides his family...in his last years. I figured if Jeff was going to be the only one playing then at least I should let people know that the music isn't going to be the main focus at this function. If anyone is offended by that then..well...I'm sorry that it's the truth. There are few veterans out here who actually knew Roger in his prime and fortunately Jeff happens to be one of them...apparently the ONLY one of them. Maybe I went about recruiting the wrong way..hell..I'm not a promoter or anything....I'm just me. The only thing I can do is tug on people's heart strings and when that doesn't work..for a cause like this...it's just plain heart breaking.
I'm glad Jeff posted my entry even though it may have come out the wrong way. I'm especially sad that Jeff may even think I could "lump" him in with those comments. If I did feel that way about HIM then I simply wouldn't say anything at all.
I didn't talk to a hundred artists or anything but out of the one's I did talk to...Jeff is the only one who responded. And that's fine! That's great! Hey...I know where his heart is.
I'm not finished trying...I'm just running short on resourses.
So..again I say...if you understand what my goal is for Monday...what OUR goal is for Monday...then please come. Let's just look at this as a time of togetherness...wether there's music or not...it's the people that really count.

With my apology to "you know who you are"....

Well...thanks all for your kind words. I do look from time to time. If you do come out to the vigil on the 12th, please don't do it for the music...that's so secondary and there's not going to be much of it anyway. This vigil isn't just about Roger or showcasing any bands or artists. Perhaps that's why people did not respond to me but did respond to calls from 'CMF. Sad really. Anyway...my goal for this vigil was to focus on Roger's NON musical life. How he wanted to make a difference in the community by setting an example for tenants...by caring about their situations in life. By showing them that there IS such a thing as a non slum lord. There's so much about Roger that people don't know and it's my goal to let them know. Seriously I know that the local music scene definitely took backseat to his later goals in life. This vigil is spotlighting EVERYONE who has lost a loved one to a violent crime over the last two years. These are the people who will be attending. Most of the people have lost children which is even more sad. WE need to let them know that their loved ones are NOT forgotten either. Maybe I'm fortunate in that Roger was a celebrity and because of his notoriety his crime gets more publicity. Because of this I feel it is MY responsibility to give all the "non" noticed people notoriety. This didn't just happen to Jason and me...it happened to so many others. Just because they weren't a radio personality doesn't make it any less painful or any less important. So...if you understand what my goal is for this vigil..which Stan Main has so graciously and completely partnered with me on..then Monday, December 12th from 5 to 9 pm at 39 Madison Street, off of West Main is where you need to be. Thanks for reading..and thanks in advance from ALL of us..for your support.

Denise,
Unk would be so proud of your courage and perseverence. He is sadly missed. You cant spend time trying to figure out "why", In todays society it seems people dont need reasons...which is sad.
God Bless you and your families..keep your chin up!! Jim

I Had the pleasure to work with Uncle Rog from 1981 to 1983 at WCMF, during which time I had the pleasure to produce "the Jazz Show". We always had a blast! Remember the fun; remember the man and his mission to promote local music with "HOMEGROWN". Sorry to read of his premature departure. A real talent will be missed.

i know that this years benefit has had many curve balls thrown at it.but no matter what ,this show must go on.not for the bands .for Rog and his music.we must show this city that a fallen comrade will NOT be forgotten."have faith, believe". with everything that the"home grown "show had against it
Rog stuck with it because he believed in it so much.like roger i believe in this event.
chin up! ,todd

Just found this site and think it's great. I havn't been back to Rochester for many, many years except for an all too breif visit. Miss you all but most of all miss Roger and anyone who was a friend or companion of his. Unk just had a fabulous heart and brought out the best in all of those who were able to be in his company. I'll make it a point to stop by here now and then to keep up on things Denise.

For a few years in the 80's I'd hand Unk the mic at Midnight and more often than not I'd just hang in the studio with him for an hour of two. Rog liked the company and at times would even beg me to hang out a little longer...I think that was one of the reasons he always liked the late night shifts because it afforded him the opportunity to have friends, musicians etc. just pop on by and say hi without disturbing station business as would happen during the day. The pay sucked but for Roger it was all about connecting with the audience, which to him were all his friends, and at those hours he could be your best buddy. Just look at the comments here from those "C" trick types who loved him.

After leaving Rochester in 1991 I moved on to stations in Baltimore, Albany and now make my home outside Seattle so it's hard to visit. I've been out of radio for some years now and don't really miss it, except those days with UNK at WCMF.
