This week I've been
thinking alot about Roger since preparing
for my old band, Exploding Boy's reunion for
the tribute show next Friday. During my time
coordinating rehearsal, relearning songs,
getting excited to play again with my old
bandmates, etc...
I realize what an honor it was to have known
Roger and to have been a part of his scene.
The last time I saw him was at Jennifer
Marie's performance at The Club at Water
Street in 02 with signature leather cap and
jacket of course! And whenever I saw him
(and it wasn't that often) I want to shake
his hand and say hello. He always knew who I
was and really loved our band. When we were
young, he was the DJ who WAS the local
scene... not the DJ "bought" and shipped in
from somewhere else. On Homegrown he made us
feel like rock stars and wanted to connect
with us and learn about our music. We valued
his feedback and friendship... He was every
Rochester musicians' friend and advocate and
we miss him. Here's to you Unk - can't wait
to play for you on Friday! Thanks for the
memories! ----Anthony----

If you heard Jeff Cosco &

just have to say..."Jeff, You are amazing!
Your hard work and endless talent certainly
did shine through!"
The single CD will be available to buy at

part 1)
I was lucky to have worked with Unkle Rog
when I was doing middays at WCMF from 1975
through 1977. One afternoon, shortly after I
had started at CMF, I was reading some live
copy when Unk snuck in the studio, crawled
under the control board and ... bit me on
the leg !! Yes, you heard it live on the
air- “aaaaaghh-e-yow! - Uuuuunnk!” and then
he just ducked out of the studio, laughing.
(Photo available on the "Picture Page")
I remember his hilarious Total Eclipse of
the Sun “concert” promo and still have a
tape of it. His “diving” into a box of
contest entries. The funniest air guitar
I’ve ever seen. Having a fancy dinner
together on a “win a date with Roger and
Suzanne” contest - all dressed up and Unk
driving us all in a big limo luxury car we
had for the night at a time when Unk was
borrowing my bicycle for transportation! His
impossible-to-read handwriting - I was
always playing things he had already played
because I couldn’t read his other-worldly
script!

part 1 -more)
Unk often played a favorite (usually Kinks)
song for me about the time he knew I was
getting up to come to work. I still smile
thinking of the way he always introduced me
as “the lovely and talented Suzanne” and
how, when he was doing mornings, we would
get all silly-flirty with each other on the
air as we were segueing into my shift. I
adored him. He was a guy from whom I never,
ever heard a disparaging word or negative
thought about anyone or anything. Total
sweetness and generosity; a human being role
model. Both Unk and Paulus were my life
support systems at CMF. I have a picture of
his smiling face posted at the side of my
computer monitor at work as I write this. I
know I’ll never ever forget him.

‘new’ studio at Leighton Ave. in 1976. oh
look- the chief engineer is fixing
something; what, something was
malfunctioning?-how unusual!) (Photo

My family and I have
known uncle rog for some 14 years. I have a
pretty extended family most of whom are not
blood related to me but most of them I see
more frequently than my actual family. When
I was introduced to this great man I was
told nothing about him being a radio
personality; like most of my family, he was
introduced as uncle rog, uncle being the
term used to respect adults. As for the time
i knew him he taught me some amazing things.
He never wanted to be looked at as a radio
personna he just wanted to be a person and
be treated as one. He also had amazing work
ethic, 8 hours working on
properties(sometimes less, sometimes alot
more) and then the grave yard shift at the
station. He was always a very positive
person with knowledge well beyond his years,
he saw some things in the world he did not
like but was able to see past those
insignifigant details and to see the good of
the world.
